In recent years the government has encouraged people to make use of public transport more frequently. This is due the problems being brought about by climate change and the pollution associated with the use of motor vehicles. In order to combat these issues people are being encouraged to use public transport rather than their own cars.

However, many people argue that the price of public transport is often far too high to justify using it instead of driving. This is especially true of trains as the fares for some journeys can be especially high, particularly if the ticket is purchased on the day of travel. Many of the companies that run trains are facing stiff competition from coach companies such as national express who are able to offer extremely discounted travel to various locations around the country. Although transport by bus usually takes longer than catching a train the fares are some times so much lower that the extra journey time can be easily justified.

Also the reliability of the UK’s public transport is often called into question by many people who have to use it. Trains and busses are often delayed or cancelled, and the inefficiency of the service coupled with the high price causes many people to use their cars instead. Nevertheless many thousands of people make use of Britain’s public transport system everyday without any problems.
